Scope and Contents

The caption on the reverse reads: 'Kormantin Fort with Fishing Village, Abadsi, Gold Coast. Kormantin Fort was built by the British in 1555 at the invitation of the local chief. At this time the Portuguese had the bulk of the trade on the Guinea Coast and frequent collisions occurred between the adventurous merchants of the two nations'.
