The Chutter Munzil, Lucknow, 1864
322 x 187 mm. View looking SW across the Gumti River towards the north facade of the Chutter Munzil Palace. This three storey palace was begun by Ghaz-ud-din Haidar (Nawab of Oudh 1814-27) and completed by his son Nasir-ud-din Haidar (reigned 1827-37). It later became the premises of the United Services Club. Beyond it is the smaller Farhat Bakksh Palace, originally the residence of General Claud Martin and later the U.S.C. Library. Bourne no. 1151.

Half-plate. There are 4 rows of columns standing free, a fifth row engaged to a back wall. The columns support a roof of varying shape, some parts being domed. (Fisher).
The Connaught Bund, 1905-11
Contains photographs, 290 x 215 mm., mounted on card in a black leather-bound album with 'Views of Udaipur' and the Udaipur arms on the cover. The photographs have hand-written captions. Subjects comprise a portrait of the Maharana of Udaipur and architectural views in the state.

[The Crawford Market, Bombay], 1890 - 1899
205 x 243 mm. View of the entrance and clocktower of the Crawford Market, situated on a triangular plot of land bounded by the Carnac, Paltan and Esplanade Roads. Designed by (Sir) William Emerson and built between 1867 and 1869, the market is named after Arthur Crawford (Municipal Commissioner 1865-71). The Friezes above the arches on the corner of the building were the work of Lockwood Kipling.

A picturesque island in the distance and on the other side of the lake is Nishab Bagh and Shalimar Bagh, the latter built by Emperor Shah Jehan, who built the Taj at Agra, who lived here during the summer months with his favourite Nurmahal, introduced to me by Moore in his 'Light of the Harem'.
