Ponteix was founded by Father Albert Royer, under the name of Notre Dame d'Auvergne, in 1908, but received its present name, that of Father Royer's home town in France, in 1914, after its site had been moved. A mounted cabinet portrait, measuring 94 x 136 mm, and showing Dr. Oronhyatekha dressed in a long coat and standing beside a table. Dr. Oronhyatekha (1841-1907) was the Supreme Chief Ranger of the Independent Order of Foresters. In 1860 he met the Prince of Wales who invited him to continue his studies at Oxford where he qualified as a physician.

A slip-case containing prints taken in Montreal, mounted on card with brief letterpress captions. Most prints measure approximately 120 x 90 mm. These pictures, which to the modern eye have a rather comical air of strained posing, were evidently much sought after at the time as being marvellously realistic (this particular collection is one of a series).
