He was appointed Menteri Besar of Perak in 1957, served as Ambassador to U.A.R., and was elected M.P. for Ulu Perak in 1964. He was appointed Assistant Minister for Mines and Lands in 1964 and Minister of Agriculture and Co-operatives in 1965.
