View from the Maidan looking across Chowringhee Road towards the W. facade of the Army and Navy Stores at the junction with Middleton Street, a classical building with a central hexastyle composite portico with irregular intercolumniation, flanked by smaller pavilions with pediments. Date of construction was about 1911, (Massey p. 107).

Humphreys, who entered the Straits Settlement Civil Service in 1905, died while on leave in China after three years as Governor of British North Borneo.
