Scope and Contents From the Fonds: Archives created by the British soldier and diplomat Henry Burney relating to his service in Burma [Myanmar] and Siam [Thailand]. The cataloguing of the collection has occurred in several stages. In 1921, the RCI Librarian Evans Lewin listed the main English language material in four series, assigning each a letter, A to D. In 1958, Dr D.K. Wyatt examined the Siamese material, including some as yet uncatalogued European material. He listed it in three sections, with the letters E, F, and...

The letter discusses Butler's meeting with Archbishop Foss Westcott, the future of army chaplains, politics, the arrival of Lord Inchcape of the Indian Retrenchment Committee, Butler's resentment at the appointment of Sir Basil Blackett as Finance Member of the Executive Council, and the appointment of Butler's brother, Sir Harcourt Butler, as Governor of Burma.

Scope and Contents 160 x 232 mm. Photographic copy of a letter (in Greek) written in the aftermath of Ottoman reprisals against Greek Cypriots for their support for the Greek War of Independence. The letter is probably dated 5 December 1821 and bears the stamp of Trymithountos Spiridon, the Bishop of Trymithountos, who had escaped the executions of prominent Greek Cypriot religious and social figures and fled to Europe. It seeks to mobilise European support for alleviating the sufferings of the Greek Cypriot...
