Letter from Trymithountos Spiridon, the Bishop of Trymithountos, 1960 - 1970
Scope and Contents
160 x 232 mm. Photographic copy of a letter (in Greek) written in the aftermath of Ottoman reprisals against Greek Cypriots for their support for the Greek War of Independence. The letter is probably dated 5 December 1821 and bears the stamp of Trymithountos Spiridon, the Bishop of Trymithountos, who had escaped the executions of prominent Greek Cypriot religious and social figures and fled to Europe. It seeks to mobilise European support for alleviating the sufferings of the Greek Cypriot people.
