The caption to the right of the photograph reads: 'This type of bed is used by the Azande - Bangwa - and Mangbetu tribes. Made from split cane and palm. Beside it is a calibash water pipe. These have ridiculously small bowls, and the tobacco is burnt out after a moments smoking'.

Spoons for sale in Jijjajeri market, 1941-02-11
62 x 40 mm. The maker had his wares all set out in rows and priced according to size and design, from a halfpenny to one and a halfpenny each. They far outdo the cheap European spoons as they are cheaper, lighter and easily cleaned and float on top of the milk whereas spoons either have to be placed on the ground or sink to the bottom of a milk filled calabash.
