Scope and Contents This album contains 114 collodio-chloride prints, mostly amateur work of good quality, approximately 110 x 65 mm in size. In addition to photographs of India, there are eight of Canada (72-79) and seven of England (80-85, 114) dated 1907 and 1909. Invitations for Douglas to become an honorary member of a number of regimental messes have also been inserted.

Scope and Contents Contains albumen and collodio-chloride prints, with dates written under in three groups. 19 relate to a visit to Ceylon via the Suez Canal and Aden 1890-1891 (1-18, 24) and all appear to be professional photographs. It is not known whether these relate to a journey undertaken by Douglas, who was 16 at the time. Secondly, there are 5 professional photographs of Durham (19-23) and finally, 7 photographs of India of a later date (25-31), 3 of which are duplicates of photographs in other albums.

An appreciation of the life of William French (1897-1960) soldier, naturalist and adventurer extraordinaire

Scope and Contents The collection was compiled by Allan Allison, Carlisle City Museum Assistant (1956-66) and Senior Nature Reserve Warden with Nature Conservancy Scotland (1968-78), who became acquainted with French during the final years of his life. At its heart are ten original letters (approximately 60 pages with photocopied duplicates) written by French to his lifelong friend Ernest Blezard, Curator of Natural History, Carlisle City Museum (1926-1966):1-2 Australia 19253 Solomon Islands...
