Scope and Contents Bayly does not keep a log of the three days spent at Madeira, beginning his daily entries for the month on 2 August when the ship set sail again, bound for the Cape of Good Hope via the Cape Verde islands. Upon leaving Madeira, he records that their small cutter was caught in a storm and lost its oars, mast, and sails.
