Commonwealth in Focus Slides
Commonwealth Royal Tour, 1953-1954
The principal part of the collection is a set of programmes and guides prepared for the different legs of the Royal Tour. These are supplemented by related correspondence and papers compiled by the Royal Empire Society and others. The collection is in English with the exception of one item in English and Arabic.
Cruise of the Yacht St George, 1880s-92
A collection of loose modern prints measuring approximately 245 x 180 mm. This prints were copied from an album containing 53 prints compiled during the voyage. Included with the prints are xeroxes of the original explanatory captions. The R.Y.S. 'St George' was owned by Ernest James Wythes (1868-1949); the compiler and/or photographer has not been identified.

Diary of Samuel Viveash
A typescript copy of Viveash's diary of his activities from his emigration to the Swan River in 1838 until September 1851, 229 pages. There is a brief introduction and index by Canon A. Burton, who arranged the preparation of the typescript.

Four Photographs of Scenery in New South Wales
A collection of loosely mounted, uncaptioned prints measuring approximately 185 x 115 mm, showing scenes in the Blue Mountains. Two of the prints are stamped in relief on one corner 'C. Bayliss, Photo. Sydney' and it is reasonable to assume, given the similar subject matter and format, that the other two photographs were also taken by him.

A collection of lantern slides of Australia (plus one duplicate). 5-10 are marked 'Commonwealth of Australia' and have serial numbers. 12-22 are marked 'Department of Agriculture and Stock, Brisbane'. The slides' captions have been used as titles and have been recorded as found.

35 mm colour transparencies. When planning the exhibition 'Commonwealth in Focus,' the Library requested material from Commonwealth Governments and these slides, with the photographs listed at Y308E, were sent in response. A continuous slide show was prepared to portray contemporary aspects of the countries of the Commonwealth and twelve of these slides were copied for inclusion (Numbers 113-124 of list at Y3011GGG).
Major-General Henry Despard: letter book
Bound volume titled on spine, 'Commanding Officer's Letter Book | Private'. Contains summaries or full transcripts of over 300 letters, both private and official, relating to the period when Henry Despard was commanding the 99th Regiment in Sydney (1846-8) and Hobart Town (1848-54) and in undertaking special duties in the Victorian goldfields (1853). The correspondence largely relates to regimental organisation, discipline and welfare. 128pp., with index to letters at rear of volume.
