Himbury travelled in his capacity as a superintendent of cables and telegrams initially, and later on behalf of the British Cotton Growing Association (BCGA) to gther intelligence on cotton growing and trade. There is also an article on Empire cotton (1905), manuscript notes on the Egba peoples and a folder of biographical notes assembled by the donor.

A copy by Mr R. Hobson of Norman's diary of his African expedition, the original of which is the property of Captain Dudley Norman, D.S.O. There are daily entries covering the greater part of 18 June 1868 - 17 February 1870. Events described in the diary include the deaths of several colleagues and a disagreement between Norman and Captain Faulkner.
