Bristol writing master's book, 1721
Writing and arithmetic, title page decorated with figures of branches of mathematics. It is inscribed ‘Rachell Tapper her book Anno Domini 1721’. Rachell, perhaps his daughter, has filled the book with calligraphic examples of short aphorisms, arranged alphabetically, starting with ‘Abstinence maintaineth health voluptuously’. On the back cover Rachell has written some questions about a young Quaker woman’s rights and duties concerning proposals of marriage, dated ’13 die Aprilis 1725’.

The document is neatly written and arranged, and is dated and signed 'J.N. Cooper, June 1884'. It may be a paper prepared for an activity of the Royal Colonial Institute. There are some accompanying press cuttings on the West Indies colonies.

Broadmead Sunday School Society: Minute Book
Minutes of meetings of the committee of Broadmead Baptist Chapel, Bristol, the first meeting reported as being held on 14 May 1838, the last on 9 January 1872, 70 folios. Pasted inside the front cover is an extract from The Bristol times and mirror, 16 November 1909, being a letter contributed by S.G. Perceval, announcing his discovery of the book.

The collection consists principally of Browne's Persian Journals, with additional manuscript material relating to his publication of Lubábu ʼl-albáb of Muḥammad ʻAwfí. There are also some of his printed publications and posthumous tributes.

The collection consists of Royal Warrants for Browne's Appointment to the Quarter Sessions Courts in Essex, the Isle of Ely and Cambridgeshire. There is also a further Royal Warrant appointing Browne as a Justice of the Royal Court of Justice and Letters Patent appointing him one of the Lords Justices of Appeal.

'A narrative of the proceedings of a small party, sent by Captain Owen, of H.M.S. Leven, in July 1823, under the command of Lieut. C.W. Browne, R.N., to explore the course of the River Zambezi on the Eastern Coast of Africa', written by Antonio X. Jozi, an Angolan and one of the survivors of the party. This is an illustrated copy of Bosazza's annotated transcription of Jozi's work (25 pages).

Album of various sized prints, concerned with Sir Walter Buchanan-Smiths service with the Nigeria Regiment in the Cameroons (plates 1-8) and in German East Africa (plates 159-201). The captions are difficult to read as they are written on dark brown paper in black ink.

Y3043ZZ/29 appears to be a Yoruba Oba (chief) from southern Nigeria. It may be possible to identify the images with reference to Buchanan-Smith's Nigerian photographs at Y3043U-Y.
