Rachell, perhaps his daughter, has filled the book with calligraphic examples of short aphorisms, arranged alphabetically, starting with ‘Abstinence maintaineth health voluptuously’. On the back cover Rachell has written some questions about a young Quaker woman’s rights and duties concerning proposals of marriage, dated ’13 die Aprilis 1725’.
