Bound volume titled on spine, 'Commanding Officer's Letter Book | Private'. Contains summaries or full transcripts of over 300 letters, both private and official, relating to the period when Henry Despard was commanding the 99th Regiment in Sydney (1846-8) and Hobart Town (1848-54) and in undertaking special duties in the Victorian goldfields (1853). The correspondence largely relates to regimental organisation, discipline and welfare. 128pp., with index to letters at rear of volume.

The largest part of the collection consists of photocopies made from the Malcolm MacDonald Papers prior to their transfer to the University of Durham in 1986, comprising correspondence, interviews and other biographical material. These papers are supplemented by some original material, including MacDonald's autobiography.

Malta photographs taken by Pauline Fothergill
A collection of photographs of memorials, buildings and monuments in Malta. Pauline Fothergill paid several visits to Malta and, at the Librarian's request, took photographs of a number of local memorials. The following list is, firstly, of negatives (1-42) and later of prints (43-72), some of which were taken from the negatives. 1-30 are black and white negatives, 31-42 colour. 43-72 are mostly black and white prints.

A collection of albumen prints which include views of the Middle East, Malta and Gibraltar by Robertson, Beato and others. The majority are of European works of arts and townscapes (many of the latter unidentified). There are also scenes at Woolwich. Plates 68-80 are uncaptioned and consist of miscellaneous engravings of weaponry, armour and archaeological sites.
