Also includes sermons in the hand of Samuel Knight DD, prebend of Ely (? 1678-1746) in pages originally left blank.

Inside the front cover is the bookplate of George, Lord Macartney, Knight of the Order of the White Eagle and of the Bath. Loose within the volume are an index, genealogical tables and a newscutting on the Peyton family, who feature in the volume

Herbert Giles: Catalogue of his library
A typescript catalogue of Giles' library, with manuscript annotations. The volume contains an alphabetical list of books written in English, 128 pages, followed by a list of works by Chinese authors, 25 pages, in which the titles are given in both Chinese and English. The text is on the rectos only. Loose with the volume is a printed pamphlet listing the works of Giles' father, the Revd Dr J.A. Giles.
