Scope and Contents

Correspondence with the general public on arms control and nuclear policy, particularly relating to articles, interviews and speeches by JEP [7 June 1987, to the Defence Information Group, 29 October 1982, to the Brunel Society, and 6 March 1967, House of Commons]. Correspondents include: Harold Braham; Sir Rudolf Peierls; Michael Nicholson; Oliver Postgate (4); Adam Butler, Minister of State for Defence Procurement, on answering enquiries about exposure to radiation from nuclear testing in the 1950's and 1960's; James Tye, Director-General, British Safety Council; Shaun Spiers; Peter Cadogan [Co-founder of Peace Anonymous] (2); Richard Gott, Features Editor of the Guardian; [Charles] Grant McKee, Producer for Current Affairs, Yorkshire Television; Air Vice-Marshal Donald Bennett (2); Nora Beloff; Professor Sir Martin Ryle.

Also includes: various leaflets and articles; press cuttings; School of Peace Studies briefing paper on basic views on nuclear weapons; pamphlet by Michael Nicholson, Back from the Abyss; report by the National Radiological Protection Board on results of exposure to radiation from nuclear tests; pamphlet with essays by Lord Zuckerman, Europe and America, and The Nuclear Shadow; copy of Sir Martin Ryle's pamphlets, Is There a Case for Nuclear Power?, and Towards the Nuclear Holocaust.
