Scope and Contents

Letters to AHP from friends and acquaintances, mostly notes of congratulation on the birth of AHP's first son. Subjects and people include: Margaret Bogle, writing with an invitation from her husband William Lockhart Bogle to view the pictures of his friend, Robert Goodman; the Archbishop of Westminster; the Bishop of Southwark; the Bishop of Emmaus; H. W. Wilson, on the situation in South Africa; Flora St. Clair Paint [Mrs Samuel Theodore Mander]; circular note from Annie Greenwood, E. M. Roscoe, and 'A. G.', with rumours about the validity of Miss Kate Marsden's claims about her work; Benjamin "Frank" Conn Costelloe, on missing AHP's wedding; and various correspondence concerning invitations and social occasions. Also includes a list of ideas relating to contemporary 'crazes', possibly relating to AHP's journalistic writing. With Anthony Pollen's annotations and notes on the letters.
