Scope and Contents

Correspondence, election campaign material, and newspaper cuttings relating to AHP's unsuccessful attempt to contest the constituency of Walthamstow for the Liberal Party in the 1895 General Election. Includes correspondence relating to AHP's selection as candidate, including letters from local supporters (C. W. Spencer, grocer, and the Leytonstone and Walthamstow Liberal Clubs); copy of the Walthamstow Reporter giving a detailed account of the election result; election campaign leaflets and posters; AHP's speech notes; and letter from AHP's brother with commiserations on his defeat: "I don't suppose you really set your heart on getting in".
