Scope and Contents
Correspondence on the statue of Sir Winston Churchill by Ivor Roberts-Jones in Parliament Square [London], mainly with Sir John Tilney, chairman of the memorial committee. Other correspondents include: Horace King, Speaker of the House of Commons [later Lord Maybray-King], enclosing a pamphlet on the previous unveiling of a Churchill statue by Oscar Nemon in the Lobby of the House of Commons; Sir Martin Charteris [Private Secretary to the Queen] (2); John Colville; Julian Amery; Sarah, Lady Audley [earlier Sarah Churchill, Sarah Oliver and Sarah Beauchamp] on CSC's preference for a statue by Oscar Nemon; 1st Lord Chandos [earlier Oliver Lyttelton] on the Fine Arts Commission's decision in favour of the Roberts-Jones version (2); Oscar Nemon; [James] Harold Wilson, Prime Minister.
