Correspondence with individuals including: Jim Mortimer, General Secretary of the Labour Party, on a general appeal for party funds (2); Rhodes Boyson, Minister of State for Social Security, on housing benefit for strikers; [Roger] Nicholas Edwards, Secretary of State for Wales [later Lord Crickhowell]; Roy Hughes, MP for Newport East; Austin Mitchell (5); Stanley Orme [energy spokesman], writing to Peter Walker, Secretary of State for Energy, on a secret list of planned pit closures in the North East.
Other subjects include: miners’ support groups; NK’s views on the strike; pit closures; the threatened closure of Llanwern Steelworks, Gwent [Wales], its coal supply and its relation to the mining industry.
