Scope and Contents
Working papers on television, covering subjects such as radio and television consumption habits and ratings; the Pilkington Committee on Broadcasting; the relationship between television, the press, and political behaviour; television commercials and advertising; violence on television; children's programming; and the intellectual, perceptual, and psychological effects of television. Consists largely of BBC and ITA Press Service reports on audience research, press cuttings, and survey data, with Mark Abrams's notes on television and social change. Includes drafts of Mark Abrams's articles "Questions for Commercial Television" (1956), "Cinema Advertising and Television" (1958), and "How to Increase the Selling Power of Television Commercials" (1959). Also includes papers originally enclosed in file entitled 'Television Report' (located in part 1), containing survey data relating to a study on television viewing habits carried out for the BBC by Research Services Ltd. (c. 1948).
