Scope and Contents
Working papers on the Labour Party in files previously enclosed in file entitled 'Future of Labour Party', covering subjects such as conservatism and Marxism in Britain; Communist Party ideology and 'propaganda'; the socialisation of individuals; the cultivation of 'civilisation' and the public realm; the impact of the welfare state on social relations; household expenditure and the buying habits of Daily Herald readers; and the family lives and leisure habits of young couples. Consists largely of press cuttings, articles, and survey data, with Mark Abrams's notes and research proposal for a book entitled 'The Social Problem of Socialist Britain' (c. 1952). Includes a copy of Michael Young's essay "Is This the Classless Society?" marked 'First Draft - Confidential' (located in file 4 of 4).
