Biographical / Historical
Vic[tor] Brown was Conservationist at Churchill Archives Centre 1969-1998.
Victor Brown was born in London, 1934. On leaving school, he undertook a bookbinding apprenticeship with William Cook, East Acton, London attending the London College of Printing and Graphic Arts on a six-year day-release course to gain his City and Guilds qualification. On leaving William Cook, he joined first F Franke, High Holborn and then Alfred H Cooper & Sons Ltd, Gorst Road, London as a Hand Binder, specialising in work for Her Majesty's Stationary Office.
In 1966, Victor took a post as bookbinder and conservator at the University of Reading and while there, undertook further training in conservation at Essex Record Office. In 1969, he took the post as Conservationist at Churchill College where he remained until his retirement in 1998.
