Scope and Contents

Mainly correspondence between HL, Rachel and Elihu Lauterpacht on subjects including: Elihu's school life; HL's paper for the Grotius Society ["The Law of Nations, the Law of Nature and the Rights of Man"]; a sketch of HL painted by a refugee artist [see LAUT 6/1]; the delay to Rachel's return to Britain; the effect on Elihu of seeing the film 'Mrs Miniver'; the day of mourning for the Jews in Poland, and HL's distress about his family; the slow progress of his book on International Human Rights ["An International Bill of the Rights of Man"], his planned lectures for February 1943 on "The law of nations, the law of nature and the rights of man", and possible publication of his book on Recognition.

Other correspondents include Arnold McNair on subjects including work plans for 1943, HL's anxiety about his family in Poland and the latest volume of the Annual Digest (2).
