Transcript of a letter from WSC (Bangalore [India]) to "Jack" [John S Churchill] on subjects including: thanks for his letter; his wounded kneecap which was caused by a "sequel to a bearfight" at a dinner the previous evening with instructions not to tell [James] Welldon about the incident "he would be bound to view it with stern disapproval - never having...come into contact with the slightly elevated and inebriated subaltern"; his opinion of hypocrisy within the clergy and of religion; his progress with reading [Edward] Gibbon's "Decline and Fall [of the Roman Empire]"; shooting; and the news that he is unable to join Sir Bindon Blood.
