Scope and Contents
Letter from Arthur Cook, Secretary of the Miners' Federation, to Winston Churchill [Chancellor of the Exchequer] on the settlement of the coal dispute, asking Churchill on behalf of the Executive Committee and Special Delegate Conference of the Federation to convene and attend a meeting of the Federation and Mining Association. Cook states that the Federation was willing to enter into negotiations for a new national agreement, with a view to reducing labour costs. Also includes a copy of a press statement by Churchill, reproducing Cook's letter and stating that the Government considered it a sufficient basis for requesting the Mining Association to restart negotiations.
