Scope and Contents
Telegram from WSC to President Harry Truman marked "Personal and Top Secret" repeating his message to Marshal Stalin expressing his distress at the "misunderstandings" which have arisen between them over Poland: his regret over the lack of progress in consulting those Poles the British and Americans have recommended; rejecting the "Yugoslav precedent as a model for Poland"; criticising developments in Yugoslavia [later Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Slovenia]; explaining why he feels so strongly about Poland; justifying developments in Greece and Belgium; commenting on reports of disappearances and deportations in Poland; and appealing to Stalin to prevent a divided Europe emerging.
