Prime Minister's printed personal minutes, October 1943.Includes texts of minutes from WSC (annotated with additional printed information) to: Lord Louis Mountbatten [Supreme Allied Commander South East Asia]; General Sir Hastings Ismay [Chief of Staff to the Minister of Defence]; Colonel Ian Jacob and Major-General Leslie Hollis [Military Assistant Secretaries to the War Cabinet]; members of the Cabinet and other government ministers; the Chiefs of Staff; senior civil servants, including Sir Edward Bridges [Secretary to the War Cabinet] and Sir Alexander Cadogan [Permanent Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs]; Director of Military Intelligence [Major-General Francis Davidson].Subjects covered by the minutes include: matters concerning planned operations in South East Asia, including maintaining secrecy, using Middle East bases, and "Culverin" [attack on the Japanese-held Dutch East Indies, later Indonesia]; utilising Italian ships; the loss of Kos to the Germans and plans to capture Rhodes [Greece]; United States and Soviet propaganda films; the western frontier of the Soviet Union; transferring Allied divisions to and from the Mediterranean; comparing the strength of Allied and Axis armies; the resignation of Jean Knox as Director of the ATS [Auxiliary Territorial Service]; food requirements for liberated Europe; floating airfields; the vacancy for the living of St Jude's, Birmingham; the behaviour of US "coloured" troops stationed in Britain; the reorganisation of the Italian government; the command structure in the Mediterranean; naval manpower.
