Some written by WSC when in the United States.Includes texts of minutes from WSC (annotated with additional printed information) to: Major-General Leslie Hollis [Military Assistant Secretary to the War Cabinet]; Lord Halifax [earlier Edward Wood and Lord Irwin, British Ambassador to the United States]; the Chiefs of Staff; members of the Cabinet and other government ministers; General Sir Hastings Ismay [Chief of Staff to the Minister of Defence]; Sir Edward Bridges [Secretary to the War Cabinet].Subjects covered by the minutes include: matters concerning Japanese advances in the Far East, including the Malayan situation, the defence of Singapore, naval action, the defence of the Indian Ocean, and the amount of information available to the press; the aftermath of operation "Anklet" [code name for the raid on the Lofoten Islands, Norway]; Lend-lease negotiations with the United States; Field Marshal Sir John Dill's [Head of British Staff Mission, Washington, United States] role; matters concerning the war in the air, including the defence of aerodromes, the form of air news and propaganda, and the number of aeroplanes damaged in accidents; targeting the Tirpitz; government efficiency; flogging in cases of rationing fraud; shipping needs.
