Prime Minister's printed personal minutes, December 1940.Includes texts of minutes from WSC (annotated with additional printed information) to: General Sir Hastings Ismay [Chief of Staff to the Minister of Defence]; members of the Cabinet and other government ministers; the Chiefs of Staff; Sir Edward Bridges [Secretary to the War Cabinet]; Colonel Ian Jacob [Military Assistant Secretary to the War Cabinet]; [Pierre] Dupuy [First Secretary Canadian Legation, Paris]; F A Lindemann [later 1st Lord Cherwell, Prime Minister's Personal Assistant].Subjects covered by the minutes include: Charles de Gaulle's plans for Djibouti; the military situation in the Mediterranean; German air strength; discussion of operations "Shrapnel" [code name for proposed operation to seize the Cape Verde Islands, Atlantic Ocean] and "Brisk"; the defence of Singapore; repairing air raid damaged buildings; British army strength; debate over the coastal command; oil imports; stocks of mustard gas; production matters, including deficiencies and the A T [?anti-tank] rifle; political detainees; relations with Vichy France; health in air raid shelters; informing the Dominions; the operation against Dakar [Senegal, "Menace"]; Emperor Haile Selassie of Abyssinia [Ethiopia]; the condition of the British bomber force.[some of these minutes have been annotated by Denis Kelly, literary assistant to WSC, at the time of the production of WSC's "Second World War"].
