Scope and Contents

Letter from Francis Wellesley (Westfield Common, Near Woking [Surrey]) to WSC thanking him for his letter concerning F Brown and discussing sentencing policy. He points out that it is not the methods of punishment available, but the way in which the law is administered which is at fault; and says that the money he collects to support Prisoners' Aid Societies is spent in "'providing ambulances at the bottom of the cliffs' because the responsible authorities 'refuse to place rails at the top'". He encloses a letter received from the editor of the Times [see CHAR 12/9/33] concerning his letter in reply to that by Sir Alfred Wills [see CHAR 12/9/18]. Signed manuscript.
