Scope and Contents

Newspaper cutting from the Times of a letter from Sir Alfred Wills (Saxholm, Basset, Near Southhampton [Hampshire]) concerning the case of David Davies [also known as David Evans] "the old shepherd of Dartmoor [Devon]" who had been sentenced to a period of preventative detention in addition to a sentence of penal servitude for stealing from a church collecting box. Wills includes criticism of [WSC's] decision to exercise "useless and mischievous clemency" in the case, and of the inaccurate statement made by [David Lloyd George] that David Evans had been sentenced to 13 years penal servitude.
