Annotated proofs and press cuttings of the following articles by WSC: "Friendship with Germany" on his own and Britain's attitude to Germany; "A Forward Step" on the improved outlook for peace in the Mediterranean, Yugoslavia and Spain, and the disappearance of [Italian] pirate submarines from the Mediterranean; "War is not Imminent" on the need to avoid unnecessary alarmism, the situation in the Far East depending upon the actions of the United States, the tension between Italy and France in the Balearics and the need for Britain and France to keep a firm position against Italy; "Spain's Road to Peace" on the strengths of both the Nationalist and Republican sides, and the need for Britain to establish relations with both; "Yugoslavia and Europe" on frictions between Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, and the need for Yugoslavia [later Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Slovenia] to ally itself with the Western democracies; "Armistice or Peace" on the end of the First World War being only a truce, not peace; "Europe's Plea to Roosevelt" on the neutrality of the United States, and the benefits to world peace of the United States regaining its prosperity; "Panorama of 1937" on Europe, Spain, Japan, Italy and France in the past year.Also includes: correspondence on postponing the Yugoslavia article.
