Eton elections and Council matters, 1863 - 1887
Scope and Contents
This file comprises:
- Two letters to Whitting from the Provost about elections and the printed questions on Greek iambics and Greek prose set for the Eton Election, June 1863;
- two sheets of printed questions set for ?Latin translation and Latin hexameters, possibly for the joint scholarship examinations, undated;
- printed sheet of Greek and Latin ?translations with the list of 'Baccalaurei quibus sua reservatur Senioritas 22o Apr 1876' printed on the back;
- 'On the Greek treatment of original hard aspirates' by J H Moulton reprinted from the American Journal of Philology, 13 May 1887;
- manuscript copy letter from the Provost to Lord Ailesbury dated 7 Aug 1882 and draft response from Whitting to the Provost;
- printed papers for the Governing Body on lecturers in Classics, Mathematics and History (G W Prothero, 10 May 1880), the argument against a proposed vote to allow Council to spend up to £100 without Governing Body approval (S B Phillpotts, 18 Dec 1882), and two copies of the proposed inscription in memoriam Henry VI, on the Fountain (no date).
