Biographical / Historical

Statute 56 of the Founder's Statutes provides that 'a prudent and discreet man well able to read and write is to be appointed by the Provost and to be called the Bursar's Clerk whose duty is to keep the register, rolls and Bursar's books, to copy the muniments and documents of the College, and to assist the Bursars in their duties: for whom the Provost and Bursars are to provide a competent salary besides his commons and robe.'
