Certain letters are closed under the terms of the Data Protection Act (1998) because they contain sensitive information about living individuals. Researchers may apply in writing to the Archivist to see the closed material, stating the intended use and precise nature of the information requested. The Archivist and Frances Partridge's Literary Executor will then consider whether non-sensitive parts of the letter may be made available, and they will... consult the author if necessary. Please be aware that this decision may take several weeks and may incur photocopying charges. A statement to this effect is given with each closed file.
