Scope and Contents

472 autograph letters signed and 1 autograph postcard signed. The files include 1 autograph letter signed from Helen Anrep to Gerald Brenan [Oct. 1930] and copy letters from Gerald Brenan to Helen Anrep, 24 Sept. 1930 and 9 Oct. 1930. The files also include two essays by Gerald Brenan: 'A note on the nature of art', undated; and 'A note on the principles of architecture', 2 Mar. 1923. Letters dated 3 Jan. 1954, 8 Apr. 1955 and 16 Mar. 1955 appear to have been removed before the archive was transferred to King's College.

Some letters are closed under the terms of the Data Protection Act (1998) because they contain sensitive information about living individuals. Researchers may apply in writing to the Archivist to see the closed material, stating the intended use and precise nature of the information requested. The Archivist and Frances Partridge's Literary Executor will then consider whether non-sensitive parts of the letters may be made available, and they will consult the author if necessary. Please be aware that this decision may take several weeks and may incur photocopying charges. A statement to this effect is given with each closed file.

FCP/6/1/19/2/1-7 were conserved March to October 2007 by Cambridge Colleges' Conservation Consortium.
