'Pelops' and 'Peneios' Photo Exchange Lists, 1903-1904

 File
Reference Code: GBR/3437/AJBW/3/89

Scope and Contents

The original 'Photo Exchange' lists for the Aegean archaeological cruises undertaken in 1903 and 1904 on the SS Pelops and SS Peneios respectively. Wace was Secretary to Professor Ernest Gardner, convenor and leader of the cruises, on each occasion.
The purpose of such lists was to collate information on all the photographs taken by cruise participants and thereby enable fellow passengers to order copies of others' photographs. This practice ensured a full suite of visual souvenirs of the itineraries undertaken. Each list is divided into columns headed 'No.', 'Place', 'Scene', 'Photographer', and 'Site', divided into two sections, '(A) Views' and '(B) Groups'.
