Scope and Contents
The archaeological site of ancient Demetrias is now part of the outskirts of the modern town of Volos, Thessaly. The man sititng o top of the massive foundation stones of the south gate tower, may be A. W. Van Buren of the American School at Rome, who undertook a survey of this landscape with Wace. Along with long sleeved shirt and trousers, he wears sunglasses, a Panama hat and bow tie.
