1 manuscript letter signed from Pitt to 'Sir', 1802-06-29 - 1831
Scope and Contents
The letter, sent from Pembroke Hall, may be Pitt's formal application to stand as MP for the University of Cambridge in the upcoming general election. The hand is very neat and may have been written by another, with Pitt simply signing. The letter is stuck to a larger piece of paper which includes a manuscript note in Pitt's hand which reads "The Lord Bishop of Lincoln". It may have been to the Bishop that applications to stand as an MP had to be made. There is also small newspaper cutting at the top recording the erection of a statue to Pitt unveiled in Hanover Square, London in 1831. A manuscript note on the reverse, also in Pitt's hand reads "Rev S. C. Smith / Yarmouth / Nofolk".
