Scope and Contents
A small, round lapel badge with the Chinese characters 中国福利会 (China Welfare Institute) on the front. On the back is the date of the founding of the China Welfare Institute, 1938/6/14. The box is a traditional Chinese style, made of paper and fabric. The Chinese Welfare Institute was founded by Soong Ching-ling, and perhaps this badge dates from Joseph Needham's 1978 visit, which would be an anniversary.
