Scope and Contents This is a black fan with a Chinese inscription in red ink. It is signed by Fu Ssu-nien [Fu Sinian 傅斯年] to Joseph Needham. The Chinese text is a quotation from the Laozi 老子. There is also a small label stuck on the paper inside the right hand side bamboo handle, but is too faint to read the characters.
