The pen holder has an illustration of a Chinese sailing boat with a tree in the foreground and mountain in the background, and an inscription in Chinese giving the date 1959. It is held in a brown envelope with the inscription (in Lu Gwei-Djen’s handwriting?) ‘Ivy [possibly an abbreviation for ivory] pen holder and lip’ and a typed address ‘Dr Lu Gwei-Djen, 28 Owlstone Road, Cambridge.’
