‘Help China / Don’t buy Japanese toys at Christmas’ flag pins, 1938 - 1939
Scope and Contents
The pins are held in a bent metal canister, which has no markings except a label on the base with the price ‘2/6’ (2 shillings and 6 pence). It was probably the original tin which held the pins. There are 135 flags with metal pins and 3 with missing pins. The pins were part of the 1938 Christmas boycott of Japanese toys organised by the China Campaign Committee, see ‘Aid China 1937 – 1949: A Memoir of a Forgotten Campaign’ by Arthur Clegg (China: New World Press, 1989).
5 pins have been selected for display on conservation foam.
