Chinese Connection: Top Ten International Friends of China Medal, 2009
Scope and Contents
This medal was awarded posthumously to Joseph Needham by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and China Radio International. A public vote was held over 40 days via the internet, with more than 56 million votes cast. The aim of the prize was to ‘help people all over the world learn more about those who have stood side-by-side with China and dedicated their lives towards developing friendship with our country and the rest of the world over the past one hundred years.’ The medal has Joseph Needham’s name inscribed on the back and it is attached to an orange and yellow patterned ribbon.
