The medal is held in its original box. Inside is an inscription on paper which states: ‘The I.S.P.F. presents its medal to Dr Joseph Needham, Hon. Fellow of the Foundation, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of science policy.’ An engraving of J.D. Bernal is on one side of the medal. It was awarded on 23 Jan. 1987.
