The cardboard box contains a plastic bag of dried plant specimens and 3 pieces of paper. The box has the inscription: '枸杞子 from 趙光義 29 Aug 78' in Joseph Needham’s handwriting, and 'Now contains 靈芝草' in John Moffett’s handwriting.

There are three documents inside the box.

One is an index card reading 'Polyporus Lucidus 靈芝草'

The other two are part of a scanned page on Polyporus Lucidus.

The box originally held some 枸杞子 given to Joseph Needham by 趙光義 29... Aug. 1978.
