Scope and Contents
These files contain c. 200 letters sent to Joseph Needham and, following his death, to John Moffett (Needham Research Institute Librarian). They include photographs of Marjorie Carpenter's illustrations and her sculpture of a woman's head, also Christmas cards showing her art work, poetry and musical scores.
Her correspondence with Joseph Needham arose from reading his work and her illustrations include Chinese mofits and characters. Her subjects relate to medicine, science, faith, mysticism, Jungian archetypes and contemporary political issues.

Biographical / Historical
Marjorie Carpenter lectured part-time at Wall Hall College of Further Education and was Chief Examiner / Moderator for Biology and Human Biology C.S.E. for the Southern Regional Examination Board.
