The book deals with the subject of revolution as used within historical studies. Joseph Needham contributed an article 'Social Devolution and Revolution, Ta Thung and Thai Phing'. This was a version of his 1964 Henry Myers lecture at the Royal Anthropological Institute, 'Time and Eastern Man' (SCC2/378).
